Liberal Democrat Councillor for the East Marsh Learn more

David Cameron once said that his Government would be the Greenest Government ever – that was a long time ago! He’s now under extreme pressure within his own party and others to abandon the green agenda, but the Liberal Democrats will not allow that to happen.
Today, I received the following email from the Liberal Democrat Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Davey:
Steve,
Did you see what David Cameron said about wind farms?
He said the Conservatives wouldn’t subsidise wind farms and would prefer to invest in fracking. He also said that he believed people are “fed up with so many wind farms being built.”
Well, I have news for David Cameron. Wind power is extremely popular: my Department’s research shows over 67% of people supported onshore wind energy and 78% supported renewables overall.
Onshore wind is one of the cheapest large-scale renewables, so any cap threatens to put energy bills up. A cap would also threaten many of the 250,000 low-carbon jobs we’re looking to create by the end of the decade.
That’s why I have launched this petition: to tell David Cameron that wind energy is popular, is good for the environment and will be a major part of our energy in the future.
Will you add your name to my petition?
Thanks,
Ed
