Get on your bike!

by Steve Beasant on 5 July, 2015

TV show will promote safe cycling across Humber region.

A new TV series is set to showcase the region’s beauty as part of the presenter’s cycling odyssey.

On Your Bike features Luke Adams pedalling his trusty yellow bike hundreds of miles, from the cobbled streets of Beverley and the shoreline of Scarborough, across East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire.

Along the way he meets a wealth of interesting locals with a passion for their area and quite a few stories to tell. “I swapped winkle pickers for cycling trainers and floral jackets for bike regalia and during the journey I came across England’s smallest pub and became friends with penguins and puffins. I’ve also unearthed some of the lesser-known gems of the area, including that of a white rabbit, a literary icon and a window!

“As well as becoming slightly fitter, I’ve learned about the world of cycling and the fantastic community cyclists belong to, from local clubs to engaging personalities.”

Luke’s six-part TV series takes in Scarborough, Bridlington, Bempton, Beverley, Hull, Barton, Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Cleethorpes.

On Your Bike should appeal to cycling enthusiasts and features landscapes and landmarks which were broadcast to a worldwide audience earlier this year during the Tour de Yorkshire.

The programme has been sponsored by Safer Roads Humber, a partnership organisation which works to reduce crashes and casualties on the region’s roads.

Safer Roads Humber raises awareness of road safety issues, delivers education initiatives to a range of road users and helps to enforce the laws concerning road safety.

Safer Roads Humber spokeswoman Ruth Gore said: “We were awarded a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award in December 2014 for the work we do to raise awareness of cycle safety and we were very pleased to continue this work by sponsoring On Your Bike – a TV series which communicates to cyclists and drivers the importance of sharing the road.

“We have a Cycle Yorkshire – Ride The Routes app and Facebook page, an Urban Cycle Guide which is available on YouTube and undertake radio and bus back campaigns to ask drivers and cyclists to look out for each other.

“We hope, by raising awareness of road safety issues, that cyclists are able to use roads safely.”

On Your Bike will be broadcast weekly from Friday 10 July on Estuary TV (Freeview channel 8 and Virgin Media channel 159).

As soon as the episodes have been broadcast, they will be available to view at www.estuarytv.co.uk
