The Grant Thorold Community Hub has finally re-opened after nearly a year of closure. The grand opening took place on the 8th December 2015, at 11.00am. The hub will be run by the Liber Community Interest Company, which consists of a partnership between Care4all and Your Community Hub, the two have joined together to breathe life back into the previously known Grant Thorold library.
Nathan Taylor, the director of Your Community Hub has been successfully running a similar community hub at the Gingerbread House, which is based at the former Humberston library. Nathan wanted to continue the good work at the Grant Thorold library, but due to the amount of work required, was struggling to achieve his next step. This is where Care4all, a local charity who support older people and people with a disability stepped in, and the partnership was created.
The aim of the partnership is to create a community hub for local people of all ages to come and enjoy. The library was a popular asset to the local area and the partnership wants to ensure that the community can continue to use the library facilities as they once did, but with much more on offer.
Nathan said: “If the community loses its library you lose pretty much the only amenity which you can access for free”
As well as a return of the previous library facilities there will also be an opportunity to grab a drink and something to eat, while you catch up with friends and family in the café area. Not satisfied with just providing an environment for you to relax in, there will also be a small retail space selling both crafts and ladies and children’s clothing.
“I am very excited about this project and I believe that the Grant Thorold Community Hub will become a great community asset ”
Local Councillor Steve Beasant, who is a keen advocate of the hub, came and opened the facility and described the opening as:
“A very welcome opportunity for the local community, the library had been missed by the surrounding neighbourhood and I am looking forward to working with the partnership in the future”
The current opening times are Monday to Friday, from 10.30 until 16.00, all are welcome.
