Liberal Democrat Leader Tim Farron, said:

“Fifa have taken leave of their senses. It is absolutely extraordinary that they have nothing better to do than start a ridiculous investigations into nations choosing to signal the remembrance. I wish the Associations luck in contesting these spurious charges and encourage Fifa to use common sense by ditching these accusations.

“Fifa is an organisation that is seen as widely corrupt, and their time would be better spent having a hard look at their own questionable decisions such as the awarding the World Cup to countries like Qatar and Russia without any regards to Human Rights.”
