Estuary TV begins broadcasting

Estuary TV today becomes the first local TV station to begin broadcasting. The station covers Grimsby and is the first of the 21 licensed stations to hit the airwaves. Once all 21 stations begin broadcasting they will cover around 12 million households. Local television services will create jobs and help local communities choose TV content that is relevant to them.

Culture Secretary Maria Miller said:

“Today marks the arrival of a new media industry to the UK – local TV. Estuary TV will be the first local TV station to hit the airwaves when it begins broadcasting to the people of Grimsby.

“It is the news most local to us that is often most valued. People want to know about events in their street, their neighbourhood, their borough. Local TV will give them this opportunity.

“Local TV will provide people with more choice and more information about where they call home – and that’s why I would urge everyone to tune in.”
