Community group take on Humberston and Grant Thorold libraries

by Steve Beasant on 3 December, 2014

Two more North East Lincolnshire community-run library services will open early in the new year

The council run service at Humberston will close for Christmas on Tuesday, December 23 and at Grant Thorold on Wednesday, December 24.

Recently formed local group, Your Community Hub, will take over the running of both Humberston and Grant Thorold libraries from the council, with Humberston reopening for book lending on Monday, January 12. It is intended that Grant Thorold will reopen later in January on a date to be announced by Your Community Hub.

Your Community Hub is run by Nathan and Melissa Taylor and Emma Harper. Included on the board of the not-for-profit community interest group are representatives of Havelock Academy and Humberston School.

Nathan Taylor, representing Your Community Hub, said: “We are delighted to have been given the opportunity to take over the running of these libraries and look forward to working with the community to ensure these venues remain the busiest public spaces in the area.

“We hope to have Humberston fully functional by February 2 and we are working with a number of partners to get Grant Thorold fully open with a range of services by this date also.

“We are still looking for volunteers at both locations, along with local business support, please feel free to get in touch with us at [email protected]

The current library service at Church Lane, Humberston will close at 5.30pm on Tuesday, December 23 and the Durban Road, Grant Thorold library will close the following day at 1pm on Wednesday, December 24.

During this transitional period, library users can return items to any of the four core libraries at Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Immingham or Waltham.

The core libraries will only be closed on December 25, 26, 27, 28 and January 1, over the festive holiday period.

Library membership cards issued at Humberston and Grant Thorold libraries will also remain valid for use at the core libraries.

However, Your Community Hub, will be operating their own membership system and new cards, for these locations only, will be required and will be available from Your Community Hub.

Plans are underway to contact library members about the changes. In the meantime, if anyone needs further information about returning loan items or has general enquiries about the new service, contact (01472) 323617.
