Live in North East Lincolnshire: Don’t waste the opportunity to have your say

by Steve Beasant on 18 August, 2015

Residents of North East Lincolnshire are being encouraged to have their say on household waste issues.

As previously reported, the council’s Cabinet at its meeting on Wednesday June 17 agreed to consult residents on the draft Waste Management Strategy.

The strategy aims to deliver a sustainable and efficient waste management service with the objectives of:

  • Reducing waste
  • Increasing reuse and recycling/composting of waste
  • Increasing public understanding and engagement on waste and recycling leading to high levels of customer satisfaction
  • Providing an accessible, efficient, effective and value for money service.

As part of the consultation, options for consideration include:

  • Retaining current collection/disposal service.
  • Changing the frequency of household waste collections
  • Changing the size of household waste containers (wheelie bins)
  • Introducing mixed recycling, for example, one box for glass recycling and one wheelie bin for all other recyclables including paper, plastics, batteries, textiles, small electrical items and cardboard
  • Reducing/prioritising the number of bring-to recycling sites

The consultation will run from August 17 until November 8.

The questionnaire, strategy and technical documents are available on the council’s web site www.nelincs.gov.uk/have-your-say-on-waste.

Paper copies are available from all parish and town councils and also at public venues including libraries and the community recycling centres at Gilbey Road and Immingham.

If you have any questions about the consultation, or to request a paper copy, please contact the Waste Management Team on (01472) 325866.
