Council tax telephone scam warning

by Steve Beasant on 16 October, 2015

North East Lincolnshire Council is warning people to be wary of a telephone scam where an automated message is left saying money is owed for council tax.

The warning comes after four reports of calls where messages were left saying around £500 was owed to North East Lincolnshire Council for council tax and they should call today to make immediate payment.

One of the people called said the number that left the message had the dialling code 07800 but the number they were asked to dial was the dialling code for Liverpool, 0151.

Luckily, the call recipients in these cases suspected it was a scam and did not transfer any money.

North East Lincolnshire Council urges anyone who receives such a call to ignore it and delete the message straightaway
