Commenting on the possibility of Britain joining air strikes in Syria, the Liberal Democrat Leader Tim Farron said:
“A few British bombs on top of the Russian and American ones will achieve little, and could even make the situation worse. We must not play into ISIS’ narrative that they are being only opposed by ‘the West’. Importantly, Britain must not be knee-jerk in our response: the fact that something must be done doesn’t mean you do something that is going to be counterproductive.
“I am encouraged, perhaps 3 years later than it needed to be, that David Cameron is talking about potential negotiations with Vladimir Putin over Syria. In order to create a lasting solution, it is critical that we engage with all key actors in the region – including Russia – and actions we take should then fit into that broader diplomatic context.”
