Letting agents fees to be banned after pressure from Liberal Democrats

by Steve Beasant on 21 June, 2017

Good news for renters after Lib Dem calls for ban on fees

Letting agents fees look set to be banned in this year Queen’s Speech following pressure from the Liberal Democrats.

The fees cost on average £223 per tenancy but under the new plans they will be banned and tenants will be given the opportunity to recover illegal fees imposed upon them.

Lib Dem peer Olly Grender, who has led a campaign against the fees, said:

“I am absolutely delighted that the ban on letting fees set out in my Private Members’ Bill is now being proposed as law.

“We know from the tragedy of Grenfell Tower that tenants’ rights have been ignored for far too long.

“It’s time we made them a much greater priority, including by introducing a public register of rogue landlords.”

This is a joke, so who is going to pay for the reference and credit checks along with protecting the deposit, basically to process a tenant it’s our time ?? So basically you are saying our time is not worth anything?? It cost us our time to process an applicant this is part of the fee?? Would you work for nothing?? the money we charge the landlord monthly is for managing the property,So basically if it’s made law that means all admin fees from any business is illegal, what about the high fees from solicitors, accounts, bailiffs charge an admin fee if anything from £150 per letter sent through your door, I think the agency fees should be capped not abolished, £250 is a reasonable price, how do young start ups make a living then..
