Commenting on the Government’s response to the Lammy report into “race bias” in the legal system, Baroness (Meral) Hussein-Ece, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Equalities, said:

“It is welcome that the Government have committed to implementing the majority of the recommendations made by the Lammy review. It is time for bold and radical action to correct race biases that exist in our criminal justice system.

“The key to this is ensuring the institutions themselves are representative. We need a judiciary and magistracy that accurately reflects our society and the Government’s lack of willingness to make a firm commitment on this front is disappointing.”
