Prime Minister’s non-answer can only infer our NHS is indeed for sale under the Conservatives

by Steve Beasant on 8 February, 2018

After Theresa May’s non-answer today, nobody should be comfortable about the future of our NHS in post-Brexit Britain.

The following article was written by the Lib Dem Leader Vince Cable and published yesterday on the Lib Dem Website.

At PMQs yesterday, I asked the Prime Minister to confirm that the NHS would not be up for sale in any US trade deal negotiations.

Theresa May failed to give such a guarantee.

The Prime Minister’s non-answer to my question today can only infer that our NHS is indeed for sale under the Conservatives.

Her pathetic non-committal response, failing to even mention our health service once, stands in stark contrast to guarantees given in 2015 by the EU trade negotiator with the US during the TTIP negotiations that our NHS would be protected.

Unfortunately, Brexit Britain, standing on our own, will be in a far weaker negotiating position.
