Commenting on the announcement of a 21 month transition deal Liberal Democrat Leader, Vince Cable said:

“A transition is better than falling off a cliff edge. But it tells us nothing about what happens at the end and it means that companies cannot develop their long term plans for investment.

“Of course David Davis will pretend this marks a real development in the Brexit process, but, in reality, this document does little more than paper over the cracks. We still have little idea of what will happen to the Northern Ireland border, and the government has been forced to agree a shortened transition period to December 2020.”
