High time Tories end uncertainty on Irish border

by Steve Beasant on 30 April, 2018

Responding to comments from the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator, Michel Barnier, that a solution to the Irish border issue must be found, Liberal Democrat Brexit spokesperson Tom Brake said:

“Barnier is right and should be heeded. It is farcical that the Tory government have continued to kick this major issue into the long grass. Our EU partners, including Barnier and Varadkar, are keen to work with the UK to ensure progress is achieved and Theresa May must be willing to cooperate.

“It is high time the Tories end the uncertainty and finally reveal how they will reconcile their ideological Brexit, in which the UK leaves the customs union and single market, with an absence of any physical infrastructure at the Irish border. It should then be the public who have a final say on the deal, including the option to Exit from Brexit.”
