Responding to BMW’s warning that they will shut down UK sites if delays after Brexit clog up the supply chain, Liberal Democrat MP for Oxford West and Abingdon Layla Moran said:
“When I warned the Prime Minister about this issue last year she rubbished my concerns and those of many employed in the motor industry.
“Frankly, the Prime Minister is more interested in pleasing the Brexiters in her Cabinet than protecting jobs and our economy.
“As we get closer to the Prime Minister’s self imposed deadline, people are getting more and more worried about Brexit. I hope this news will act as a wake up call for this Tory Government.”
Notes:
Layla Moran‘s first PMQ on this issue from 13th September 2017:
“Oxford West and Abingdon has a vibrant local economy, but, reliant on the university, science and car industries, it is set to shrink if we leave the single market and the customs union, risking thousands of local jobs. Is it not time that the Prime Minister was frank with people about the dangers of leaving and allowed them a say when we finally know the full facts?”
