Responding to the unrest within the Cabinet following Friday’s meeting at Chequers, that has seen Brexit Secretary David Davis resign overnight, Leader of the Liberal Democrats Vince Cable said:
“Theresa May’s proposals can hardly be described as a ‘soft Brexit’, given the damage due to be caused to the economy by taking the UK out of the Customs Union and Single Market. But even this is not a tough enough stance against the EU for the Brexit ideologues who have quit in a huff.
“This fudged compromise is already proving unworkable. With a Government so badly divided, it is fast becoming time to go back to the British people to ask them if they want an exit from this chaotic Conservative Brexit.”
