Liberal Democrat Brexit Spokesperson Tom Brake MP is warning that the threat of a dangerous no-deal Brexit is now critical, following speeches from the Prime Minister and Michel Barnier.

Mr Brake said:  

“As it has been in the UK, the Prime Minister’s fudged Chequers deal has been diplomatically, but systematically, torn apart. If this is what Barnier is saying in public, just imagine what the Government are being told in private.

“Time and again the Tories have been warned that they cannot have their cake and eat it, not least on the integrity of the single market and UK/EU customs arrangements. But with just weeks left to agree a deal, the Tories are still indulging in fantasy politics.

“With serious issues yet to be resolved, not least at the border of Northern Ireland, the prospect of a catastrophic no-deal Brexit is becoming more concrete by the day. It is time the people were given the final say, and an opportunity to Exit from Brexit.”
