The Daily Mirror reports, today union leaders lined up to praise Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell’s pledge for a £10-an-hour minimum wage .
Unite general secretary Len McCluskey said:
“This will be music to the ears” – we now live in hope for a return to ‘beer and sandwiches…”
But the Lib Dems were less impressed. The party’s economic spokeswoman Susan Kramer said:
“John McDonnell’s speech was the reheated mantras of a bygone era but written by the political equivalent of David Brent. It was terrible, cheesy and utterly out of touch.
To be fair most speech writers say open with a gag and when he said ‘we have to become a government in waiting’, he delivered a decent joke.”
