Cleethorpes Carnival Parade was “absolutely marvellous”

by Steve Beasant on 1 August, 2011

Thousands of families enjoyed fun in the sun as the annual Cleethorpes carnival came to town.

Sixty brightly-decorated floats snaked their way through the resort on Saturday – setting off from Sidney Park and arriving at Pleasure Island more than two hours later.

The hundreds of participants who took part put on a dazzling show, with floats themed around everything from Harry Potter to the jungle and country gardens.

Walking groups also took part in the fun and dozens of dance troupes completed show-stopping routines for the duration of the parade.

Organiser Councillor Leanor Pidgen, who is part of the five-person Carnival Events Ltd organising committee, said the event was “absolutely marvellous”.

She said: “The whole thing went brilliantly and we’re so grateful to everybody who took part.

“The weather looked very dull first thing in the morning, but the sun came out and it was a glorious afternoon in the end.

“All of the floats were fantastically decorated and the groups and societies who took part really pulled out all the stops to make it a carnival to remember.”
