Local textile artists have been invited to exhibit alongside an internationally renowned group in an exhibition taking place in two Grimsby venues until November.

Members of the 62 Group, an artist-led organisation established in 1962 to promote embroidery as a current and engaging art form, have invited learners from North East Lincolnshire Council’s Community Learning Service (CLS) to take part in their Ebb and Flow exhibition – a collection of work ranging from printed and stitched textiles to sculptural mixed media and installations.

The group has been working on this exhibition for the past 18 months. It is curated by June Hill who has developed the theme, which makes reference to the rich history of Grimsby and its connection with the seas.

Running from Tuesday 9 September to Sunday 2 November 2014, the exhibition is held at the Fishing Heritage Centre and Grimsby Minster.

The 62 Group’s members have been some of the highest esteemed British textile artists and membership is now not only international but only achieved through selection.

Sue Stone, chair and exhibiting member of the 62 Group, has been a regular visitor to the CLS Annual Art Exhibition.

Sue has been impressed with the standard of work and was excited to have the learners involved. CLS leaners will have their work on display at the Fishing Heritage Centre.

Other recent Group 62 exhibitions have been held in Tokyo, London and Manchester – to name just three.

Jan Dowson, creative arts specialist lead at CLS, added: “It is a privilege to be invited to exhibit learners work in conjunction with the 62 Group’s Ebb and Flow exhibition. It’s an excellent opportunity to work alongside noted textile artists from around the country.”
