Man witnesses bag theft from woman at the junction of Oxford Street and Hope Street

Police are keen to trace a man believed to have witnessed a theft from a woman at the junction of Oxford Street and Hope Street in Grimsby at approximately 1220hrs on Sunday 23 November.

The 70-year-old victim was walking down the street carrying a shoulder bag when she was approached from behind by the suspect who grabbed the bag from her and ran off down an alleyway in the direction of Victor Street.

He is described as a white young male, 5ft 5ins tall, slim build, wearing a dark jacket and dark jeans.

The victim was unharmed and no violence was threatened.

The stolen bag is described as a black, canvas bag, with a black buckle and contained a leather purse with cash inside and a bus pass.

Officers are especially keen to locate a man who was in the area at the time and is thought to be a potential witness to the incident. He is a white man, 5ft 8ins tall, medium build and was wearing a short, dark jacket.

It is understood he told the elderly victim he would try and get the offender and ran off towards Victor Street but did not return or contact police.
