Cabinet agreement on “bespoke deal” won’t fool anyone

by Steve Beasant on 19 December, 2017

The Cabinet today agreed to demand a “bespoke deal” following its first proper discussion of the final Brexit outcome.

Theresa May ruled out membership of the single market as “democratically unsustainable.”

Liberal Democrat Brexit Spokesperson Tom Brake said:

“By ruling out membership of the single market, Theresa May is threatening thousands of jobs and billions of pounds of tax revenue.

“Today’s rare display of Cabinet unity won’t fool anyone.

“We all know David Davis is incapable of negotiating a deal that will satisfy his own backbenchers while protecting people’s jobs and living standards.

“It is families across the country, not Conservative ministers, who will pay the price for this botched Brexit.

“No deal the government negotiates can match the benefits we currently enjoy as an EU member. That is why Liberal Democrats will keep fighting to keep the option of an exit from Brexit on the table.”
